Executive summary. Find the case, read where it is, and move it along the board so its position matches reality.
Definition
An authorization case tracks one prior authorization from the rejection that revealed it to the decision that closes it.
What to do
Open Authorizations, then Cases. Each row is one authorization being pursued.
Open the case you are working. Its page carries the case rather than a summary of it.
Use the board when you are moving work rather than reading it. Authorizations, then Board, arranges cases by where they have reached, and a case can be moved from the keyboard alone without a mouse.
Record the payer decision on the case when it arrives, so the next person to open it does not start over.
Where this legitimately goes different ways
An approval has an expiry, and a refill after that date needs a new authorization. Expiring approvals are surfaced ahead of the refill rather than at it.
A denial is not the end of the case. Appeals are their own queue, and the case remains the record of what was asked and what came back.
Frequently asked questions
Can I work the board without a mouse?
Yes. Moving a case between columns has a keyboard path, which matters at a counter where a mouse is often not where your hands are.
